This is your final analytical challenge. You will synthesize all the financial data gathered throughout the semester, perform a DuPont Analysis, benchmark your company against a key competitor, and issue a final, professional investment recommendation.
First, place your printed Worksheet "Capstone Project" on the table. Next, gather all your previous printed Worksheets from Modules 3 through 9. Work with your team to compile your company’s key metrics and transfer them into SECTION A of your new Master Worksheet. Resolve any conflicting data.
Timeline Check: Ensure all numbers from Modules 3-9 belong to the exact same fiscal year. Mixing years will destroy your analysis.
The Narrative Check: Look for contradictions. If your company is highly profitable (Mod 8) but has a terrible Current Ratio (Mod 5), they might be masking a severe cash flow crisis.
We must understand how your company generates its Return on Equity (ROE). In SECTION B of your printed Worksheet, deconstruct your ROE into its three core pillars: Net Profit Margin, Asset Turnover, and Equity Multiplier.
Net Profit Margin (Net Income / Revenue): Measures your pricing power and operating efficiency. Are you making a good profit on each sale?
Asset Turnover (Revenue / Total Assets): Measures sales volume. How fast are you spinning your assets into sales?
Equity Multiplier (Total Assets / Total Equity): Measures financial leverage. Are you artificially boosting ROE by taking on dangerous amounts of debt?
Numbers need context. Identify one major competitor. Download their latest Annual Report, calculate their "Big Four" metrics, and fill out the comparison table in SECTION C of your Worksheet. Compare them directly against your company.
Direct Rivals Only: Comparing a software company to a car manufacturer is useless. Choose a company fighting for the exact same customers (e.g., Coca-Cola vs. Pepsi, Boeing vs. Airbus).
Publicly Traded: Ensure the competitor is a public company. Private companies do not publish their Annual Reports online, which will waste your time during data mining.
Complete the Financial SWOT analysis in SECTION D of your Worksheet. Based on this, formulate your ultimate investment recommendation (Buy, Hold, or Sell). Only after your worksheet is fully completed, transfer your final verdict into the secure system using the form below. Be prepared to defend your position live in front of the Board!
